Threads (the ol’ wwwboard) has been taken down temporarily.
Threads has always been my favorite part of this site, mostly because it’s where all of you get to control the content. It’s a place where those of us from back in the day can keep in touch and joke about the yester years while keeping each other informed of what’s ahead (Ahhhhhhh). Some of the posts, while certainly very funny, involved unkind statements involving names of people from our past that really exist and have reputations and feelings that need to be considered. One of those people found the site, was deeply hurt by how their name was being used, and made a phone call to the of the author of this content. This author then contacted me and asked that I remove the offending posts. Rather than going through the arduous task of sorting out all the acceptable content from the possibly offensive (where do I draw the line?) I just decided to pull the whole thing offline for a bit to let things cool down. I don’t know what the future holds, but for now this part of the site will have to be missed. The good times…oh the good times…

Goodbye Boston >> Hello San Francisco
My last few months in Boston were really something. I made some wonderful friends (what’s new?) and had some really great times…all while being totally stressed about where I was going to live, what I was going to do, who it was going to be with, and how I was going to hold it all together. I had my heart broken and hurt a few others in the process. Life is complicated. ~~~ Now I live in San Francisco and couldn’t be happier. What a wonderful city this is, it’s so much better than I realized before. And I made my decision about a week before I found a place to live. I am surrounded by great friends, and seem to make plenty of new ones each week.

I have an internship at a great recording studio
I got completely hooked up, thanks to the lovely Sarah Cabell and her equally lovely mother, with a job at a pretty sweet recording studio.

I recently discovered del.icio.us, which is a great bookmarking tool. While playing around with that, I found some of the various toys that go along with it. The coolest one being Cocoalicious.

So, what’s the quickest way to add links to either del.icio.us or Cocoalicious? Well, there are bookmarklet’s: add to del.icio.us, add to Cocoalicious. Very nice, except I don’t like showing the “bookmark bar” in my browser window (it just feels cleaner without it there). Besides, why should I have to click a mouse button? I want to do this straight from the keyboard. Making matters more complicated, my default browser is Camino.

My solution: write an applescript! Unfortunately, Camino’s applescript support is not very hot. Fortunately, I am…and after much fooling around I present:

tell application "Camino"
set myURL to «class curl» of window 1
set myTitle to name of window 1
end tell

tell application "Cocoalicious"
	make new post with properties {description:myTitle, url:myURL, tag string:"caminolicious"}
end tell

Open in Script Editor window.

This script takes the webpage of front most window (or tab) from Camino, and inserts that page as a new post in Cocoalicious.

I saved this script in my ~/Library/Scripts folder, added it to my Quicksilver catalogue, and a gave it a trigger “⌥↑⌘D”. Now it’s as easy as touching the keyboard, and I’ve added a new bookmark.

Once we had solid drum tracks, we spent the next few weeks recording guitar and bass parts here in my apartment with my DI, as well as the synth parts and background vocals. There’s a part towards the end of the tune where we each took turns reciting poetry by Blake or (in my case) repeating this sentence over and over. When I was finally able to find more studio time, Max and I went back into the studio to record the lead vocals with the singer, Bob. We used Berklee’s pearlman through Max’s V72 with just a little bit of compression.

Finally, on Thursday morning at 3am, Max and I went back into the studio to reamp the guitar parts through my friend Richard’s amplifier, and then had everything mixed by 6am. For future reference, 3 to 6 in the morning is not the best time to mix, still…there’s no doubt we brought out the rock.
